IELTS is an internationally recognised test of English language proficiency for non-native speakers. It consists of four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. A score between 0 and 9 is awarded to each module. The total possible score is 87 points (a band scale from 1 to 9 in each section) and the minimum passing score is 42 out of 87. 42 marks correspond to a CEFR level of A2. IELTS scores are valid for two years after which you will need to retake all or parts of the exam as long as your intended use of the certificate is within those two years.

The speaking component is recorded on a digital recorder with no one else present, not even the examiner. You can’t ask any questions during the exam so make sure that you know exactly what you want to say before hand! It lasts about 11 minutes. Here's how it works:

You have 45 seconds to 300 words(看题目要求确定字数)to introduce yourself and explain why you want to go to University xx in xx country. Then you have 1分钟 to answer an examiner’s question related to your personal statement. Next, you have another 1分钟 to reply to a second question. Finally, there is an opportunity for you to clarify any points that might still be unclear.

All answers should be given in English, though some examples of common mistakes would include using too many informal words and expressions、mixing up tenses and not using the past perfect.
